Adam Lambert—Modern Day Superstar!

3 Jan

Okay, I really just got into this guy. Recently, during the new year, I was watching the VH1 Music Video Top 40 of 2010. And who was at least on the charts twice? This guy:

Now what is so great about this guy. In all fair honesty, his music is cliche, the sound particularly, though the lyrical ability is pretty good. The voice is not bad either. But there is more to this singer than his musical ability. It’s his style, his performance, and his ability to attach himself to the audience and draw that audience in. Perhaps coming a little too late, had he come out in 2000-2004, he’d be much bigger than he is now, considering the generation values and the impact he would’ve made, considering the styles then. Now, well, with the vast majority of artists using the “dark theme” and the “I’m bisexual” or “I’m gay” cry (which seems to be a contributing factor to most singers’ success today like Katy Perry, who kissed a girl and liked it, Lady Gaga who performed with Gay Pride, etc), it’s going to be struggle to maintain standing out. Yet, he still manages to make his mark in this generation with his own originality and flavor.

Adam has the charisma onscreen that is missing in most performances of the generation after him. Of course, the kids generation of 80s and 90s, “Libra”, all had that onscreen chemistry, from Britney Spears to Spice Girls to Beyonce to Justin Timberlake. Though the sound was pretty cliche, they all had that charisma that just couldn’t be and still can’t be ignored. Adam simply knows how to put his feelings into his performance. He has character, spunk, and to top it off, good looks. His image is polished. Even though the style has been done in 2002-2005 by Evanescence, AFI, Panic! At the Disco, and others, he truly makes this image his own, and revives it in the new generation’s favor. He brings to pop/rock music what was originally only in hard rock genres: edge.

And there’s something about his eyes. It has a sharp, deadly, twinkle when he performs. One that winks as he expresses himself in his videos. He has a confidence in his expression that makes a superstar. Confidence onscreen shows that he knows exactly what he’s doing and is not afraid to do it.

So, overall, after listening to his song, I say give it a shot. The guy has potential to be a superstar.
